For some reason, some of my best thinking and breakthrough ideas happen away from my laptop. Often inspiration strikes when I am nowhere near a computer or even a scrap of paper and a pen, like when I am out for a run or a bike ride, driving in the car, taking a shower, or otherwise going about the parts of my life that happen outside the office (although the time spent outside the office these days is shrinking as we push toward our rapidly approaching official launch date…). Posters taped to the entrance and exit doors of my children’s schools and flyers sent home in homework folders have served to remind me that it is Teacher Appreciation Week. The teachers and and teacher’s aids who spend their days inspiring my kids and fostering their love of reading, math, science and learning in general, richly deserve all of the coffee mugs, bunches of wild flowers and Jamba Juice gift cards they can stuff into their battered canvas tote bags. We have been fortunate to connect with truly outstanding, devoted teachers during our preschool and elementary school experiences to date so I make sure that “Buy teacher appreciation gifts” features prominently on my To Do list this week.
